Hello!

I’m Andy, an interface developer based in Manchester, UK. This site is designed to contain useful code examples and tutorials, and some examples of my work. It’s also a good place for an occasional rant!

I’ve had a passion for web development and computers from a young age, launching my very first website (using Tripod) with a friend at the age of twelve. Things have certainly changed quite a bit since then, and I’ve now been working full time in the industry for over six years.

I’ve built up a variety of skills, the most interesting of which are:

  • XHTML
  • CSS
  • JavaScript including theĀ jQuery framework
  • ASP.NET (VB.NET)
  • Classic ASP
  • XML
  • MSSQL
  • MySQL
  • Microsoft SQL Server 2005/2008 administration
  • IIS6/IIS7 configuration and administration
  • Adobe Photoshop
  • Accessibility

I’m also learning PHP and getting to grips with various open source content management systems including WordPress (the platform this blog runs on).

A particular passion of mine is standards compliance, and creating sites which meet accessibility guidelines (in particular the WCAG). In previous roles I’ve driven organisations to improve their accessibility practices, advising people from various teams and backgrounds on its importance, and how compliance can be achieved. This passion has fuelled my interest in usability and user experience, which I’m currently learning more about.

As well as all this, I am (of course) getting very excited about the possibilities HTML5 and CSS3 are opening up, and am currently putting both through their paces on a few interesting projects (watch this space!).

I’m not currently looking for a full time position, but I’m usually available for freelance projects. Get in touch if you’d like to talk more.
